An 11 days tour to China - Day 4

Day 4 ~ 24/11/2010 Wednesday

After breakfast @ Chaozhou's BaoHua hotel..

Carpet of the Hotel's lift.. This is interesting..

Road construction.. Sand and Dust everywhere..

A "Geese-ly" welcome..so interesting..
A visit to Chen Chi Huang's former residence in Chenghai..
Look at the wonderful architecture of the house.. A rich man's house of that time..

Floor and Window's tiles shipped in from the west like Italy, Europe etc.. A display of wealth can be seen at every corner.. However, due to frequent war out-break in China, the original bronze window frames were all stolen and currently wood is used as a substitute.. Hope I got the facts right caused they explained in Chinese language.. Oh deary deary..   -.-""

Wooden puppet of Chinese Opera.. It should be interesting and a tourist attraction but it was a total disappointment.. The puppet was doing only one action.. that was waving his arms.. What The.. I can also do it why waste time watching? Boring to the max........
Next, we did see too cute children of China.. uncertain of gender.. However, think they are both girls.. Both danced in front of us as someone was singing behind them.. Note: they were not part of the act.. Hahaha..
Well.. I forgot to take a picture of the one singing.. She was just another disappointment..

Nice gate.. Thought it was a ladder at first..
The one and only photo of the Thai Buddhist Temple.. Climbed up, went one round and came down.. Guess in 5 to 10 minutes? Did I mention that our tour guide was surprised?.. hahaha...

After which, we went for lunch.. because I did not take any photos, I forgot where we went.. Oops..
However, for sure, due to road construction in that area, we did not get to eat the tasty Chaozhou River Fish which the tour guide recommended.. So Sad.. ~ fish fish.. fly away..~
Arrived at another temple.. We took a little break while our tour guide went to buy tickets..  There were lots of sour plum sweets.. Exact names of them.. I did not check.. Oops sorry.. hahaha... Just Eat Lah...
 Heart-shaped container..
During the climb.. see those beautiful smiles.. more stairs to come our way..
*Evil Laughter ~ Muahaha..*
                                                           The main entrance finally!!!
Hey... that's my dad and behind him was the stairs we need to climb and count.. Guess how many steps are there?
Our "man-ly" tour guide... hahaha.. I captured his nice pose, didn't I?
Did I ever mention that he had tattoos on his arm? Cool!!!

Well... He explained that we had climbed 51 steps of stairs and that meant the 51 years of Han Yu's lifespan.
The Drum-like rock that our tour guide put his hand on will only be found outside the house of study like bookstores or library... Guess you may never find such symbols in S'pore, as spaces in front of shops are rather small...Hahaha...

Han Yu, (768-824).. a great man in the Tang Dynasty of China

In brief, the people of Chaozhou are very grateful to Han Yu. Within a short period of 8 months, he had done many things like set free the slaves with his own money, drove off crocodiles which were harming the fishermen, and promoted education., This caused a great cultural development in Chaozhou.

In current days, Han Yu is honored like a God. The people of this area will bring children who will be studying school like in Kindergarten or will be having examination to come pray to his statue.

                                                       Rocks from the Tang Dynasty..

Roof of Han Yu's Temple.. Different roof design from the ones in Fuzhou, Meizhou and Quanzhou..
At the top of the hill view..

Arrived at next destination, another famous Kaiyuan Temple.. A few hundred years old "curvy" tree..

2nd Aunt..
Slow walk in the streets.. Hill Classic Lane (name taken from the Travel Itinerary)

Next, the street straight ahead is Shui Ping Lu..

Would you dare buy tofu from them? Erm..  Btw, it is black.. -.-""
Contrast of shops in the lane.. Top photo: the new.. Bottom photo: the old..

A female dog coming out of a pots ad pans shop..
A sad-face female dog.. wonder why so sad?
cause she just finished washing those pots and pans.. dude.. Hahahahaa..
The inner view of the city door aka "Cheng Men"

the inside view of the city..
the outside view of the city..

A far view captured earlier on the bridge..

We had dinner at the same restaurant as the day before.. but different dishes.. ^.^
Dishes were almost gone before I remembered to take photos.. Oops.. sorry readers..

Our Choazhou aunt met us for dinner in the restaurant then bought us to her father's (aka "Pak Gong") house.. We walked through the small, dark and smelly lane and up the narrow stairs then we reached.. See how cramp.. everyone had to walked in a single file..

We did take group photos in the house but I do not have it with me now.. Once I get the photos, I will edit the post and add more in.. Stay tune to more post.. "My first time in Hometown" coming soon..
